Age, Biography and Wiki
Paul Volcker is an American economist who served as the Chairman of the Federal Reserve from 1979 to 1987. He is widely credited with ending the high inflation of the 1970s and restoring economic stability. He is also known for his role in the Volcker Rule, which limits the ability of banks to engage in certain types of speculative investments. Volcker was born in Cape May, New Jersey, and graduated from Princeton University in 1949. He then went on to earn a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1951. Volcker began his career in government service in 1952, when he joined the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He then served as Undersecretary of the Treasury for Monetary Affairs from 1969 to 1974. In 1979, he was appointed Chairman of the Federal Reserve, a position he held until 1987. During his tenure as Chairman, Volcker implemented a number of policies to combat inflation, including raising interest rates and tightening the money supply. These policies were successful in reducing inflation, but they also caused a recession in the early 1980s. Volcker has since served as an advisor to several governments and international organizations. He is currently a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Volcker has received numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002.
